Badia Marteau

Badia is my first name and also my artist name. Self-taught, I have always drawn on different supports, since my youngest age by illustrating at the beginning my notebooks and school books. 

The human figure has often been my preference. I have nevertheless progressed cautiously by drawing and painting the characters from afar and from behind, then I have gradually brought them closer as if zooming in and erasing the surrounding landscape. In recent years, I have turned them around to focus on their expressions and the emotions eating at their faces. While my work has been influenced by early 20th century Viennese painters such as Gustave Klimt and Egon Schiele, I have always loved the paintings of Caravaggio and Berthe Morisot among others. Marc Chagall and Gerard Garouste touch me by the fairy tale and chimeric side of their paintings. 

The eyes of my female characters, I want them to speak, which pushes me to pay a lot of attention to them. Abandoning oil painting in favor of mixed techniques by associating acrylic, pastel, ink, collage and spray paint, my technique has evolved by adapting to my temperament. 5. Happy to be able to exhibit in different places in Paris, in province and abroad, I have the privilege to be a medallist member of the Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters, to have obtained prizes and a quotation certified by Armand Akoun in 2018.
