Presentation

Originally from Yougoslavia, Antoine Loknar was born in 1951 in France. He works for the National Education and develops a limitless creation in parallel.

He transforms old materials (wood, glass, paper...), distorts images and poetize the real, a process that Antoine Loknar does with vigor and delicacy. Collective memory is close to intimacy, the raw hangs out with the precious, and the profane combines with the sacred. Rust, tar, crumpled paper, strings... are reborn from their ashes through a lyrical plastic transposition. It is by weaving a connection between two sensibilities, which at first opposed that give birth to the singularity of his universe. The alchemy of words, old photographs and oneiric materials create an ancient charm in resonance with the future.

"My work is a research job, I try to depict some of my obsessions which revolve around time, memory and ancestors. All this refers to a secret, to a tabernacle sometimes, to everything that makes our personal, singular history relate to something universal. I try to create a spiritual, almost sacred sensation by using materials that are ultimately poor", explains Antoine Loknar.
