A self-taught painter for more than 30 years, Valérie Billet turned to sculpture ten years ago. She lives and works in Sète, her hometown.
Her work finds its roots in childhood and its inspiration in its immediate environment. She is particularly sensitive to everything related to the human, to urban environments, to the discovery of the other, to the feeling of incommunicability, to the fragility of our realities.
Her approach as a visual artist is resolutely experimental. Sensitive to the ecological problems specific to our time, she works from diverted materials (plastic bottles, books, concrete, gas, plastic bags) which offer her, by their characteristics, a field of possibilities, and which thus find a second life or usefulness.
Beyond a purely aesthetic research (shape, transparency), she wonders through the technique of molding (Bloc Béton) on the randomness, the imprint, the trace, the memory, the interaction, the trace, the scar.
More broadly, her work is guided by a questioning of the notions of identity and reality.
