Presentation

Nils Wachten is a young German artist. He works in France. Nils is above all a drawing and nature enthusiast. From an early age, he practiced taking up and shaping abandoned drawings around him, in school notebooks, on table corners. He takes them, transforms them and uses them to constantly advance in technicality and get closer to an ideal. “I would like creative madness to become our new weapon of war, our new universal norm." In pastel in 2007, then in pencil until 2009 and today in pen, Nils Wachten finds his inspiration in the simplest things he encounters on his way; a task, a damaged object, facial features, silhouettes. His works are complex compositions in which games of scales reveal tangled and abyssal forms. He scrupulously accumulates clues; photos, objects, which will inspire his next creations to make them reappear then in a hyperrealistic way on the detail of a paper. His works are dense and we find there his admiration for the post-apocalyptic atmospheres of the painter Roland Cat or for the constructions of MC Escher and Serge Bihannic. The engraving by Gustave Doré also marks it like the works of Philippe Druillet and Victor Vasarely.
In 2016 he exhibited in the Off of the Dakar Biennale in the Présences exhibition, participated in rare exhibitions including -30 in 2019 organized in Paris by the D Galerie in 2019. "I start from the simplest thing that I has… a pencil in my hands, a micro-task on the wall, an object lying next to me."
