Presentation

AKTE ONE discovered graffiti writing during his teenage years in Berlin in the early 90s. He painted graffiti in urban space as a member of different groups like TLB. In the industry, he has been recognized for his graffiti art for 25 years and also demonstrates talent as a rapper. He produced several albums and AKTE is today one of the most established representatives of the HipHop and Graffiti scene in Berlin. Apart from his artistic work, it is very important for him to communicate this culture to young people, in particular through workshops that he leads. Free, rich and varied, the "painting-assemblage" developed by the artist in his workshop, shows through the mastery of abstraction and a mixed technique, colorful compositions with Wildstyle lettering, comic strip characters, Tags, colored spaces, stripes, scratches, splashes and runs. The play with the new and the old, the bland and the lively, harmony and chaos makes one feel the dynamics, the joy of experimentation and the spontaneity of the artist's pictorial process. AKTE's painting prompts the viewer to examine and contemplate the works for a long time. AKTE's “quotes” from the Graffiti language bear witness to his assimilation into Hip Hop culture for many years. - Katia Hermann, art historian
