Presentation

Sekou Dembo is an artist born in 1992 in Accra, capital of Ghana. After his studies, he left for England to join Chelsea College of Art, from which he graduated in 2016 with the congratulations of the jury.

As soon as he left the school, he undertook to make his pictorial approach more complex by integrating the testimony of our time. To do this, the artist mixes two registers of creation: what he calls "artvestigation", which consists in infiltrating political or economic sectors in order to carry out a journalistic work, from which emerges in parallel, plastic, vernacular forms of his immersions.

His first major "artvestigation", consists of an infiltration during one year in the Amazon company in order to collect information on the internal functioning of the company and the working conditions. His work takes shape in the transcription of these data and experiences through pictorial research of compositions, forms and colors.  To quote Lise Tabous, "Sekou Dembo would not be satisfied with a work that is solely studio work; he goes, in the style of impressionists, on the motif, on the smoky battlefields left behind by the new forms of capitalism. »
