Born in 1981 in Belfast, where she lives and works as artist as part of Cathedral studios, Lisa Ballard is drawn to the temporal in the landscape, trying to capture in her paintings how it is to be in that moment and place. Leaning towards abstraction, but holding on to the figurative elements.
Since attending the University of Ulster, Belfast College of Art, Lisa Ballard has received several awards for her work and exhibited in places such as Belfast, Dublin, London and Holland, most recently having had a solo show at the Mullan Gallery.
The practice and the process of actually making the painting is important to Lisa Ballard, using painterly brush marks, she puts down a colour and responds to it, layer by layer. Incorporating washes, flat spray paint and scratches to allow the painting to evolve.
