Ushio Shinohara was born in 1932, he lives and works in Brooklyn.

The Japanese artist is best known for his “boxing paintings” created by striking a canvas with boxing gloves previously dipped in ink or paint. In 1960, he founded with several other Japanese artists the group of Neo Dadaïsm Organizers (NDO), the Japanese branch of the famous Dada movement. Close to Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg, his work is in the greatest museums, at the Guggenheim and the Met in New York, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum or at the Pompidou Center.
