Kestutis Zapkus is a painter born in Lithuania. In the 1960s he moved to the US and studied arts : he got his BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago (Ryerson Foreign Travel Fellowship) and his MFA from Syracuse University, New York.

He received numerous awards for his work: in 1964, First Prize at the Second Annual Chicago Arts Festival Invitational Exhibition; in 1968 the CAPS; in 1979 the NEA; in 1996, The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Grant.

Kestutis Zapkus held teaching positions at: University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Fine Arts, The Vilnius Academy of Art, The Cooper Union School of Art, Parsons School of Design, Princeton University, State University of New York at Stony Brook.
