Jacques HEROLD. French painter, engraver and sculptor of Romanian origin (Piatra 1910) Living in Paris since 1930, he was hired as cook by the sculptor Brancusi. He was part of the Surrealist group for the first time in 1934, which served as a lever for André Breton to excommunicate Salvador Dali from the Surrealists. He returned there in 1938 until 1951. He won with several members of the group the south of France where he settled at the foot of the Château de Lacoste then continuing to spend part of the year there. He died in Paris in 1987. He participated in Surrealism with paintings in exploded and jagged shapes or with works such as his sculpture "Le Grand Transparent" (1947) He then developed into a more abstract and delicate art. And gave numerous illustrations of books. Besides his painter friends, who were above all Yves TANGUY, who introduced him to the surrealists and Oscar DOMINGUEZ, he is the friend of many poets and writers: Michel BUTOR (A surrealist other), Gellu NAUM, Boris RYBACK, Julien GRACQ, Pierre MABILLE, Alain BOSQUET, Francis PONGE;
