Paul Akiiki

Paul Akiiki is a modern and contemporary professional African painter. He has a masterful mastery of the canvas.

Paul's love for art began when he was still a toddler, scribbling over anything his hands could land on.

He recorded a strong zeal for his special skills and deepened it when he joined a formal art school at the prestigious Margaret Trowel School of Industrial and Fine Arts-Makerere University 1994. He graduated in 1998 He followed various disciplines such as sculpture drawing, ceramics, art history, graphic design, business studies related to art, but emerged with painting as his major.

Paul runs his UJUZI Art Studios / Gallery which he founded in 1999. The studios are currently located on the 1678 Kisaasi road Bukoto lot.

In his own words: “I love and admire the Dutch master Van Gogh. I am particularly delighted with his mastery in the way he juxtaposes his pigments to trigger endless emotions in the eyes of the beholder". He mainly uses the impasto painting technique, which simply refers to the application of large chunks of paint to the floor or canvas.

In the impasto technique, Paul Akiiki records his message or iconography by applying the curly-swirl approach. The technique guides the viewer through his canvases from one point to another and always brings you back a continuous movement.

The majority of Paul's paintings are oils on canvas. “My work is non-representative, it is semi-abstract, emotional with a strong iconography full of energy and the sun as a signature. It is modern and contemporary, and built with professional materials. Sometimes I work with traditional subjects but with a modern touch. I love nature and the depth and perspective draws you deep into the inner part of my art".
