Bran Symondson is a British visual artist and photographer.
He started practicing photography before being sent to Afghanistan as a soldier.There, he started a work of documentation that allowed him to become one of the greatest photographers-reporters later on.
Bran Symondson reached this result because he takes the time to gain the trust of his models. Who allow him to observe them and they even ask him to arrange the way they would like to be seen. They are the real actors of his photographs and not the victims. Bran Symondson is able to read their expressions and their body language. He is patient and waits to understand his subject before photographing it. Thanks to his creative process, he adds a certain lyricism even surrealism to his pieces, which are a combination of documentary and an aesthetic work.
He created a whole new series of pieces of arts inspired by his experience in Afghanistan. Its main subjects are the AK47 guns which he modifies by covering them with bills, butterflies or other cheerful decorations.
He has worked with several magazines such as GQ Magazine, The Sunday Times and has obtained several awards such as the prestigious Amnesty International Media Award in 2011. His pieces are now exhibited in several galleries and they have been purchased by several artists including Jake Chapman and Piers Linney.
