Presentation
Denae Howard is a multi-disciplinary artist who has lived and worked in the heart of Brooklyn all her life. Coming from a creative family, her parents realized that the visual arts were the primary means of communication between her and the outside world.
Denae explores her own practice and pushes it relentlessly. The different media she uses meet and clash, creating something fresh and uninhibited.
Through her artistic practice, she tries to deconstruct her thoughts. She questions her growing confusion with American social and governmental institutions, marked by a lack of advocacy for Black American communities. Denae Howard becomes aware of the importance of the role played by civil society in making things change, and even more of the role of the artist within that society.
The change begins by taking in hand oneself, one's profession, one's creative practice and one's relationship with the actors of the same industry, so that the values of the artist are considered.
As a committed artist, Denae quickly understands that art can and must play an important role in her community. In this way, the creation of a network contributes to the promotion of the talents of her creative community.
Her work has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum, Gettty Museum and the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA).
