Movement Emerging Black Artists

Historically, it has been difficult for members of the Black community to see themselves represented in an art world dominated by European tradition and Western influences for centuries. However the narrative is beginning to progress with  the emergence of contemporary BIPOC artists whose indisputable talents can no longer go ignored. Resisting the temptation to bow down to western influences in the pursuit of acceptance, we have witnessed a movement of emerging Black artists redefining the contemporary art scene in the last century.

Art exists primarily as a means of expression. This collection of emerging artists celebrates the expression of the Black experience in an African diaspora amongst other things such as the portrayal of ancient African craft processes in commercial art. These emerging Black artists, empowered by those gone before them, further the black dialogue in the arts sector. Bakpak DurdenEbuka MichaelAmel Bashier and a number of others are at the forefront of the genre. The increased visibility of members of the BIPOC community within the art world has led to a shift in the dialogue around art and identity, and has given more Black artists the opportunity to present their work in places from which they were  previously excluded.

Importantly, many younger and lesser-known Black artists are now emerging onto the art scene where they have been welcomed with flourishing careers. Here we have curated a collection of emerging Black artistic talents. Discover them on Artsper now!
