Current exhibition at the Galerie Vent des Cimes Grenoble. Born in 1959 in Dordogne, Daniel CASTAN French painter, draws from a young age. A graduate of Fine Arts in Bordeaux, he first worked as a graphic designer. Very quickly he created his company and carried out work for important organizations such as UNICEF, Pierre BALMAIN, the UN or ZIPPO. But at 40, tired of this stressful life, devoid of gratitude and finally of the creation he was looking for, he decides to leave everything to paint. In his first professional life, Daniel Castan traveled extensively in New York and Hong Kong. He retains a fascination with the urban universes of large metropolises and their disproportionate perspectives. In his paintings, he tries to recreate these very graphic atmospheres. The lines of the buildings are lost in the sky, the wide avenues seem endless, the colors collide. The artist Daniel Castan has chosen oil paint applied with a knife which allows him to work both in paste, in large strokes, and to draw in the material. The gesture was affirmed and the work of Daniel CASTAN evolved rapidly. Very quickly the photographs, his first medium, were no longer of any use to him, and it is now an imaginary, fantasized urban world that he deals with on the canvas. He is a painter like a man of the moment, on the spot. He lives his life and his painting daily, with rigor and freedom. Daniel Castan is now a key figure in French contemporary art, represented in Grenoble by the Galerie Vent des Cimes.

Daniel Castan

Born in 1959 in Dordogne, Daniel Castan draws from a very young age. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Bordeaux, he worked as a graphic designer and created his own company, he has done some works for Unicef, Pierre Balmain, ONU, ZIppo, Polyflamme. When he was 40 years old, he started painting again just for the pure pleasure of it. At age 48, he left everything to follow his dreams.

At the beggining of his professional life Daniel Castan travelled a lot to New York and Hong Kong. He had a special fascination for the urban world and their exaggerated perspectives. In his paintings, he tries to recreate these graphic environments. The lines of the buildings get lost in the sky, the long avenues seem endless, the colors collide. The artist works direclty from his memories and imagination.

Daniel Castan chose to paint with alkyd oil. This kind of oil works just like classical oil, but the binder in it, is a kind of resin that allows accelerated drying. His favorite tool is the knife, it allows him to work with paste, and to draw in different materials.
