I have always wanted to use my art as a tool to discuss the sociocultural sceneries of the Igbo society in the post-colonial era because no one else can tell our story better than we do, my art is a conduit where history and modern realities meet, we cannot talk about the Igbo history without using religion as a reference point hence the use of religious iconography in my works. Religion is an integral part of our existence as a people.

At the mention of Igbo spirituality and Christianity, there are two imaginary parallel lines that are drawn in our minds which often indicates that they can never meet, in fact, they should not be mentioned in the same conversation, but I do not share in that sentiment, from my spectrum these two belief systems share a lot in common. As Igbo cosmology/spirituality view carved wooden sculptures and masks as an extension of the supreme being, Catholicism view sculptures of saints and other sacred images as a means to reach the almighty as well. Central to these belief systems is the predominant veneration of symbolism. I interpret this intersection in my works by having an admixture of a solemn image and a
traditional image as a single figure.

Personal experiences and research have played an imperative role in these intrinsic observations and as an artist, I want to bring my audience to this consciousness. The use of geometric shapes in my works projects advocacy for dynamics of thoughts, flexibility, and reorientating ourselves about how we view these belief systems (can we view things from a different perspective? Can we look back to look forward ? Are we open to an informative dialogue?)

The newsprint is an essential part of my renditions, it portrays an appreciation of the long history of the tenets of Igbo cosmology/spirituality (where we are coming from as a people and where we are currently, how we have moved with the wave of colonialism, its influence on the sociocultural existence of the Igbo society and the paradigm shift in our belief systems)

In all of this, I think we subconsciously incorporate tenets of the old belief system into the modern ones, it takes a deep form of introspection to understand these intersections. That is what this body of works represents, to project these connections to help us unite with where we are coming from.
