Dean Rossiter

United Kingdom Born in: 1992

Dean Rossiter is a multidisciplinary artist who has become internationally recognised for his unique approach to visual forms of communication. Diverse in his approach, Dean's genre spanning works remain connected through the exploration of art and its purpose in the digital age.

Having been born after the creation of the internet and having grown up through the technological boom of the 1990's, Dean explains that his interest in art “lies at the intersection of organic and synthetic experience. In a world that's increasingly digitalised where both visual and social experience is becoming increasingly artificial, I am interested in using art as a tool for cutting through the digital noise, to promote reflection and organic exchange."

Dean is best known for his Reaction Paintings which blur the boundaries between art and science. Taking a deconstructive approach to materials, this body of work explores the potency of visual contradictions. This has produced a painterly language which exists in a state of fixed fluidity. By pairing the immediacy of colour with the ambiguity of abstracted forms, these works oscillate between modes of recognition and perplexion.

These works were praised by writer and critic Elinor Perry-Smith for their “Slick amorphous" qualities which “Draw the viewer in, somehow; hinting at the mystery of artistic practice and deeper concepts." Having gained significant interest in both Shanghai and Hong Kong, these works have been shortlisted for commission projects with MGM and the Arts Newspaper China.

Most recently Dean has made a return to imagery focusing on a series of large collage based works; these have been featured in the summer issue of Inside Artist magazine.

These new works investigate our relationship with imagery in a media and consumer dominant culture. Using visual sources from advertising and mainstream media, these collages question how the pervasiveness of consumer imagery has altered the way we interact and engage with visual objects.

Being described by the ICAC as “A young and talented British expressionist painter" who is “Undoubtedly interesting and worth keeping an eye on.", Dean's work is a regular feature at international art fairs such as Scope New York (2018), Spectrum Miami (2017), The Shenzhen International Art Fair (2017) and Art Nanjing (2016.) Dean's work continues to see a growing stable of private, corporate and public collectors.
