    Artwork sold in perfect condition

Japanese calligrapher Fuh-mi explores a much freer style at the crossroads of street art and traditional Japanese calligraphy.

This is one of her latest "misbehaving" artworks: Pacman jumping in to eat the Chinese character "ghost", like in the old video game.

Japan Born in: 1970 Bestsellers

Japanese artist Fuh-mi has studied calligraphy, poetry and ikebana (Japanese floral art) since childhood. She describes her style as “semi-formal", and considers very important the process of selecting different types of supports (un-stretched canvas, paper, metal…) in order to take calligraphy out of its traditional setting.

Her calligraphy is also reactionist! Doing something new in Japan, especially for a woman, is rarely seen very positively.

To quote her: “Many calligraphy old “masters” told me to stop doing what I do, that it is fake calligraphy, and many other negative things… But they all do the same thing that people used to do centuries ago, and often not as well, so I think they are the ones who should be criticised, for not willing to create something new."
