In the 70s he regularly vacationed in Chapadmalal. My parents, middle-class workers, determined to be able to join the upward social mobility, possible in those times based on "sacrifices" and savings, managed to build a "typical family" that, with highly controlled resources, could vacation in the Mar del Plata complex . This complex, located 30 km. of Mar del Plata, on Route 11 and built under the decree of President Perón in 1945, it was destined to “achieve the rest of the working family, considered utopian or unfeasible without state tutelage” and its purpose was to make possible the access of the working population to places of tourism. It consists of 19 bungalows and 9 hotels, two of which are "category A" (No. 1 and No. 2) and 7 are category B, with No. 3 being "Children's". The Nº1 and Nº2 were used by people belonging to the government fundamentally and from the coup d'état, to the military of higher ranks and "wealthy" families, which was contradictory with the purpose of its creation. The project was in charge of the Ministry of Public Works, directed by General Pistarini. Its building type was the so-called "pavilion" that at that time was being used for the construction of public buildings. Its construction was carried out in several stages. It was completed in the Presidency of Perón and the work passed into the hands of the Eva Perón Foundation. For its execution, the expropriation of the Martinez de Hoz Estancia Chapadmalal, of about 650 hectares, was “decreed”. It was completed in 1954 with the construction of the Administration, Medical Services and Hostería del Lago buildings, although it was already inaugurated in 1950. The word "Chapadmalal" is of Araucanian origin and means "swampy corral", this constitutes a toponymic irony, since it does not have anything like a corral or a swamp. In my story, it is the proper name. The memory of this mythical place appeared to me as empty spaces, full of absences, with images of family moments not exactly happy, but rather melancholic. Solitary games between “barracks” with pretensions of amusement parks, in my memory they were nothing more than the scenery, the backdrop of a terribly distant time. So I decided to take the time to photograph this set of pavilions by the sea. The weather and the skies were not a circumstantial detail but a conceptual and aesthetic choice. For many Argentines this place is symbolic in several ways; political, social, economic. For many it is a symbol of Peronism and its ideology. For me it is much more than all that. This is the "Chapadmalal" of my childhood, of drowned sounds, the smell of an alcohol heater for the mate water, home photos out of focus, a distance so great that I had to go back and "re-treat" it to be able to appropriate it. of those moments of my life as a child.
