    The Kate Series, 2002 came as a welcome reprieve near the end of Leonard Freed's life before which time the photographer tackled social-documentary subjects for which he became well-known for his photography on Harlem, the civil right movement, police work, and other photo essays.

    This is a series of 5 vintage gelatin silver prints 8" x 10" on the subject of the female nude by Leonard Freed. Each photo is stamped vintage, some handprinted by the photographer, with all stamps on photo verso.

Leonard Freed
The United States Born in: 1929

Born 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, Leonard Freed worked as a freelance photographer from 1961 onwards. Magnum photographer Freed traveled widely, photographing African Americans in America (1964-65), events in Israel (1967-68, 1973), and the New York City police department (1972-79). Freed's coverage of the American civil rights movement made him famous, but he also produced photo essays on New York (Harlem), the Italians (Italy), and Germany. 

Leonard Freed died in 2006.
