  • About the artwork

    Artwork sold in perfect condition

In 2018, a century after the death of the sculptor Léon Messiaen in the war, the City of Troyes installed in the middle of the street a reproduction of his sculpture entitled “Mowed Energy (or Last Spasm)”. From street sculptures, elements of architecture or nature, Hv creates a subtle staging work. An unexpected dialogue between sculptures which may be more than a century apart then arises. From his works are thus born stories. Another visual language opens up to us, awakening our imagination. The stone becomes flesh and gives off an irresistible sensuality. Hv's words "Brought back to life Transplanted naked in monochrome From an isolated country setting Then dressed in transparencies ..."

Hv

France Born in: 1965

Born in Paris, amazed as a teenager by the violin gills drawn by Man Ray on the back of a woman, Herve Bindefeld would become Hv in four steps : self-taught photographer, physician, physician photographer, and then, finally, photographer "resuscitator of sculptures".

Devoting himself entirely to art photography for more than a decade, Hv has held exhibitions in galleries in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium as well as in Asia and the United States. His work has been shown in many fairs and exhibitions. The FIAC and the Carnavalet Museum have also been seduced by the elegance and originality of his work.

From street sculptures, or from elements of architecture or of nature, he performs a subtle work of staging the inanimate to come into life. Sometimes an unexpected conversation arises between sculptures a century apart. Stories appear from these works of art opening a new perspective. Another visual language awakens our imagination. The stone becomes flesh brimming with an irresistible sensuality.

Hv offers artistic pictures of artworks from artists long gone. These lonely sculptures, neglected, smashed almost into pieces, and not properly fixed, represent models, persons or animals, dead as well. These blocks of marble, stone or bronze are outside in the streets exposed to weather conditions, to the ravages of time, unprotected.

Hv take a deep look at them, with humility, listens to them, hears them. Along an emotional and aesthetic process, Hv loses himself inbetween the real and the virtual, the past and the present, the whole and the part... to bring some life back to them and bring them back to life !
