    “intimacy: private space of each person, from a physical, emotional and spiritual level”.

    This project –carried out in Tokyo– aims to raise a reflection on the concept of intimacy in today’s societies. Defining “intimacy” as the private space of each person from a physical, emotional and spiritual level. And how mutual respect for this “space”, beyond what the laws say, is a possible fact in any society that perceives it as a common good.

    Surely some of the first images of the Japanese capital that come to our head, are of seemingly chaotic crowds, or urban highways which run between glittering and haughty skyscrapers. But there is another reality that passes almost unnoticed by the naked eye: where silence, stillness, respect for others and for the community, are permanently present. A reality that I have taken as a starting point, to create the images of this project.

    This is not a documentary work about the Tokyoite society, nor the idea of “intimacy” as it is raised here, is related to some Japanese concept. I have used daily situations in urban spaces, as visual metaphors, to represent the respect for the feelings, thoughts and physical space of each individual, in the daily coexistence with the rest of the members of their society. In opposition to what we could define as “sensory” or “emotional” contamination. That is, the countless violations or interferences that our “private space” suffers daily in most of the societies.

César Ordóñez
Spain Born in: 1964

César Ordóñez, photographer and video-artist, develops his activity mainly between Barcelona (his hometown) and Tokyo (his city lab). He uses visual language and its universality, as a tool to reflect on today's world, the beauty of existence and its fragility. Exploring how our thoughts and attitudes influence our environment, and the daily evolution of the societies in which we live, and vice versa. With a vital, intimate and often introspective style, his works move between the reality and the metaphor, between the lived moments and the dreamed ones.

His career as an author began in the late 80's in Barcelona, and he fully resume it from 2007 (when he created "Ashimoto", his first “Tokyoite" project) after a parenthesis of more than 15 years, during which he prioritizes his activity as a professional photographer in the fields of portraiture, fashion and advertising, and the associative work within the photographic world.

He has exhibited in Spain, Mexico, France, Russia, Japan, South Korea, China and Peru. He treasures more than 15 solo exhibitions and more than 50 group ones. In the Japanese capital highlights his participation since 2012, in the extensive project Tokyo-Ga.org, which brings together 100 international photographers. His works are part of important art collections such as: Fundació Foto Colectania (Barcelona, Spain), Auer Photo Foundation (Geneva, Switzerland) and Unicaja Foundation (Malaga, Spain), and several private collections in Spain, France, Russia and Mexico. His latest book published is Tokyo Blur.??
