The Artists of the Pompidou Centre

Opened in 1977, the Pompidou Centre caused great controversy with its daring and original architecture. The French newspaper, Le Figaro, even stated “Paris has its own monster just like Loch Ness". Now, as the museum surpasses its 40th anniversary, the building is well-loved and has become an iconic Parisian building its own right.

The Pompidou Centre was an initiative by Georges Pompidou (president from 1969 to 1974) for whom the inauguration of a cultural center dedicated to contemporary creation was a great concern. It houses the public library of information, a theatre and a cinema and, of course, one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art in the world with over one hundred thousand works. The project is a resounding success and welcomes over 3 million visitors each year.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Pompidou Centre, we have selected works by the great artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, all of whom also have works in the museum. You'll find works by Bernard Buffet, Victor Vasarely, Zao Wou-Ki...

This selection is perfect whether you're looking to start collecting or add to your growing collection (even if is a little more modest the Pompidou Centre's).
