Hiperrealismo
"Lo que une a estos artistas es ante todo un hiperrealismo de los personajes, una crítica de la sociedad, un "determinismo social", una ventana abierta a nuestra manera de habitar el mundo", afirma el comisario Hervé Mikaeloff sobre su selección en torno al tema "Retrato y figuración". Una mirada a la escena francesa" para la Art Paris Art Fair. Optó por incluir a varios artistas expertos en retratos hiperrealistas, como Pei-Ming Yan, Laurent Grasso, Dorian Cohen y Marc Desgrandchamps.
En la historia del arte, el siglo XX estuvo marcado por una sucesión de evoluciones de las tendencias artísticas. ¿Qué tienen en común? La carrera hacia la abstracción. Del cubismo de Picasso al expresionismo abstracto de Pollock, pasando por el Art Brut de Duchamp, el conceptualismo y el minimalismo, todas las escuelas trataron de alejarse de los dogmas de los siglos de pintura anteriores, en los que la cercanía con el sujeto primaba sobre el proceso creativo.
En 1973 apareció el hiperrealismo. Es la ruptura y el renacimiento de lo figurativo. Visto alternativamente como una fractura o, por lo contrario, como una prolongación del pop art y de la técnica pictórica de sus precursores Andy Warhol y Roy Lichtenstein, el hiperrealismo corresponde a la representación ultrarrealista de una persona, un objeto, un paisaje... No hay temas privilegiados, cada artista tiene su estilo propio.
El término hiperrealismo, aunque se desarrolló en gran medida en Estados Unidos, procede del francés. El marchante de arte belga Isy Brachot fue el primero en utilizarlo en 1973 como título de una exposición en su galería en Bruselas. Expuso a fotorrealistas (fotógrafos realistas) influyentes estadounidenses y europeos, como Chuck Close (especializado en fotografías de identidad ampliadas), Ralph Goings (en coches), Richter y Delcol…
A partir de entonces, el término "hiperrealistas" se utilizó para describir a todos los pintores y escultores influidos por los fotorrealistas. Sin embargo, a diferencia de estos últimos, que ponen en práctica una objetividad absoluta hacia el modelo, los pintores hiperrealistas omiten o añaden detalles que permiten una mejor lectura global del sujeto, más "fiel" que la realidad visible. A diferencia de la fotografía, la pintura hiperrealista contemporánea juega con la narrativa, con las emociones del espectador. Se posiciona sobre temas sociales, culturales y políticos.
