Artistes pop figuratifs
Né dans les années 1950 en Grande-Bretagne et aux États-Unis, le pop art a remis en question les traditions des beaux-arts en utilisant des images issues de la culture populaire. Caractérisé par l'accentuation ironique du banal par les artistes pour se moquer d'une culture artistique élitiste, le pop art figuratif était lui tout sauf commun. L'œuvre d'Andy Warhol de 1962, le « Marilyn Diptych », représente une icône reconnue par les masses, et à titre figuré, l'ultime réaction au figuratif dans l'expressionnisme abstrait. Un sujet reconnaissable est le moteur du pop art. Les œuvres de ce mouvement représentent typiquement des figures célèbres. Il n'est pas surprenant que les artistes d'aujourd'hui soient en résonance avec ce mouvement, puisqu'il est né d'une coïncidence entre la mondialisation de la musique pop et la jeune culture d'une décennie de révolutions sociales et de changement à grande échelle.
