Escarlet Salvatierra

Through the intensity of her colors, Escarlet Salvatierra captures the intensity of the sun in the Inter-Andean valleys. Born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, in 1972, Escarlet Salvatierra started painting at an early age, clearly influenced by growing up close to her father, the recognized Bolivian painter Ruperto Salvatierra. 

With precise but spontaneous brushstrokes, thick in pigment, Escarlet has developed her own style, approaching the portrait, still life and landscape painting with equal ease.  A warm, lively, and cheerful palette is characteristic of her work. Of note are her explorations of the inner self and female sensuality in her nude self-portrait paintings and drawings, which have been recurrent themes in her works often combined with allusions to traditional Bolivian costumes, dance, and landscapes.

Escarlet Salvatierra has presented her work in more than 26 individual exhibitions and numerous collective exhibitions, mainly in Bolivia and Spain. Although she did not receive formal training, she has been recognized as a professional artist with a constant presence in the Bolivian art scene. During her stay in Barcelona from 2003 to 2004, she actively participated of the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc, and 2003 she obtained the Second Place at the drawing contest organized by this institution and in 2004 the First Place at the Barcelona Quick Drawing Contest. In addition, she has received multiple awards in Bolivia. The Cochabamba Town Hall Museum organized in 2015 a comprehensive exhibition of her works that included a selection of paintings and drawings produced from 1993 to 2013.

In a 2015 interview for a newspaper in Cochabamba she said: “I am in love with painting, I cannot live without painting, because if I don´t paint I despair".
