Presentation
Eyoeal Kefyalew is a photographer born in 1994, originally from Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital. Between photography and graphic design, his work documents the streets of the city of Addis Abeda and its inhabitants. The photographer uses the documentary form to delve into his own past and his memories. His latest project deals with street vendors.
Eyoeal Kefyalew has recently created a body of work that explores the multiple layers of our environment using light as a tool to identify the degree of visibility. The shadows in contrast to the saturated images create a flattening in the images, envisaging a confrontation between the comfortable and the familiar with the dark and heavy elements of the environment.
His works have been exhibited at Melrose Gallery in Johannesburg, Turkish Photography Foundation, Fotosfer in 2021, Addis Foto Fest 2018, UPPA: East African Photography Award 2019 and published in Out of the Phone: Mobile street Photography book.
