Jean-Michel Turpin

At the age of 14, passionate about photography and the media, Jean-Michel Turpin gets a fake press card and begins working as a photographer in Paris. After studying drawing, painting, and art history, he really began his career, in 1985, by working as a freelancer for the French magazine press. After a collaboration with the Sygma agency, he works with the Gamma agency from 1991 to 2004. His work is published regularly in most of the major magazines, and he gets numerous awards: Festival du Scoop d'Anger, Prix Marc Flament, World Press.

Today, Jean-Michel Turpin is an independent photographer and continues to collaborate with the press and with publishing houses. He is interested in social subjects that he follows for long periods of time, with feature stories on faraway countries and peoples, while continuing to cover the french and international news. Since 2006, he has been the photographer of Frédérique Lopez's show "Rendez vous en Terre Inconnue". He also published photo books: in 2010, "Sur les lieux du crime" and in 2011 "11 septembre New-York" with a preface by Jean-Christophe Rufin.
