Presentation

Marie-Edmée Séguin spent her youth in Auxerre and has devoted herself to art without hesitation. Dance, music, drawing, painting... François Brochet, a sculptor from Auxerre, gave her her first box of oil paints when she was 15.

She followed an artistic training with Jean-Michel Colignon, professor at the Beaux-Arts d'Amiens, then in Paris (art college, Beaux-Arts free workshops, Grande-Chaumière workshop).

In the 1970s, she worked as an art director in advertising, then as a freelance illustrator, which led her to teach for many years at the Académie Charpentier (Paris-Montparnasse).

At the same time, she continued her formal research, alternating between figuration and abstraction. Figuration by taste for drawing under all its forms and by curiosity of the other, whether it was a blade of grass or a human animal. Abstraction, in a quest for freedom, gesture, energy, exploration of color, and also spontaneity. Thus the painting dances, sings, recounts the light and its games with the matter, it celebrates life and beauty.

Her masters are Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Hartung, Viera da Silva, Hockney, Matisse, Boticelli, Joan Mitchell... and also Tai Ji and Chinese calligraphy.
