Biography Mr. Bernard Baills

It was on December 23, 1958 that Bernard BAILLS was born in Lavelanet in Ariège.

Born of a Catalan father and an Audoise mother, he spent the first years of his life in Sainte Colombe sur L'Hers in the Aude with his maternal family. It was with his maternal grandfather that he discovered and learned woodworking and mechanics in general. He cut his teeth in his grandfather's wooden comb factory.

Despite his predestinations for manual work, he went into IT and created and managed a company in Perpignan.

Self-taught, it was not until retirement that he gave free rein to his imagination and gave birth to Bern_art. Heritage of a rediscovered inner child who marvels at the magic of machines, the transformation of inert matter to give it life, give it a soul.

He finds there a peace of mind and an availability of spirit, cleaning up the pollution of forty years of computer science.

Bernard being of a curious, ingenuous and generous nature, he shares with us his figurative, ethnic and sometimes naive creations, influenced by many artists such as: Kimmy Cantrell, Taieb Ayat, Chris Turri.

He also gives his sculptures the names of other artists who marked his childhood and adult life: Neil Young, Hernest Hemingway, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Jim Morrison...

His sculptures are made with recycled steel, a remnant of a purely functional past, assembled by welding and painted with acrylic.

Bernard is inspired by his passion for the sea, the boat and fishing to give life to his creations and thus make us discover his universe.
