Presentation

Wolfgang Gäfgen born in 1936 in Hamburg (Germany), is a German plastic artist renowned for his drawings and engravings. Gäfgen began to exhibit in Germany during the sixties but also in Paris. In 1972, MoMA brought to light his drawings and engravings which he called black manners as part of the exhibition "Etchings Etc" and which expressed reliefs on large formats, sometimes on two or even three contiguous surfaces. In 1976, he exhibited in turn at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal and then at Documenta 6. In the 1980s, the Center de la Gravure et de l'Image Imprimée in La Louvière and the Center d'Art Le Lait d 'Albi exhibit his engravings. Many art centers have works by Gäfgen in their holdings: abroad at the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, the Albstadt Gallery and MoMA; in France in the Frac Basse-Normandie, Pays de Loire, Picardie and Poitou-Charentes; at the Villeurbanne / Rhône-Alpes Contemporary Art Institute; and at the Artothèque de Caen.
