Udo ZEMBOK – glass, glass sculpture.

Permanent artist of the Capazza Gallery since 2016.

“After studying painting, I quickly devoted myself to working with glass. A material that offers unparalleled possibilities in terms of light and color. Painters have always tried to capture light. I very quickly took on this historic quest for light.

I discovered glass techniques in a workshop that carried out commissions for artists in Amsterdam. This medium has fascinated me and for almost 40 years I have been pursuing my personal research. I have developed a special technique for superimposing glass plates, each of which is pigmented with colored glass powders. This block of fused glass, revealed by the light passing through it, expresses color in three dimensions. Our eye defines its physical and scientific reality, but our individual perception opens us up, reveals to us, teaches us who we are. »

- Udo Zembok

“Traditionally, stained glass is revealed by light passing through it. My research proposes a broadening of this concept. A second light source illuminates them from the front and provides a different reading, completing the first One imposes itself naturally on the gaze and the other calls for the active participation of the spectator".

- Udo Zembok

Udo Zembok is the winner, with Pascale Zembok, of the competition for the design of a glass arch for the "deployed" Cathedral of Créteil. Architects: AS Architecture Studio, Paris. The artistic proposal is based on a new interpretation of the three constituent colors of light: green-blue-red and their concordance with the symbolism of the Trinity.

The illustrations show the impact of the colored “bands" on the atmosphere and the luminosity of the architectural space.

Dimensions of the glass arch: 57 m long and 2 m wide The realization was entrusted to Peters Glass Studios, Paderborn, Germany.
