Yoshitomo Nara is a Japanese artist born in 1959. He was a Fine Arts student at the University of Arts of Aichi. He obtained a second master's degree from the Kunst Akademie Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf in 1987.

His work belongs to the Japanese Pop art movement of the 90s. In addition, he is influenced by punk art, graffiti, manga, and American cartoons.

His personages, children, or animal, are mischievous or foolish, they oscillate between a naive and violent character. they emanate a singularity, they are elusive and unfathomable, which stirs up the curiosity of the observer. Yoshito Nara combines coldness with tenderness in the same painting.
