Presentation

Doze Green began painting on New York subway trains in the 1970s. He rapidly distinguished himself through his highly recognizable graphic style exhibiting his work as early as 1981 while still a very young man. His creations were displayed at the Fun Gallery, the Fashion Moda and at Tony Shafrazi alongside Keith Haring and Rammelzzee who became his very good friend and mentor. He also gave break dance performances, another emerging discipline next to graf ti, obtaining success as a member of the famous Rock Steady Crew.

He appeared in the legendary documentaries Style Wars and Wild Style. Thus, over several decades, Doze Green stands out as a legendary gure of hip-hop culture.

Without, however, con ning himself, the New York artist is also in- terested in certain elds such as comparative religions drawing connections between the various myths of different cultures, exa- mining the human soul's share of the irrational and magic. This vision portrayed on canvas through his unique approach gives him an im- portant place on the international art scene.

He kept painting and exhibiting all around the world and in Europe in particular, leaving a deep impression on a new generation of European artists seeking spirituality and new artistic forms such as Os Gêmeos who say how hos work made them think about approaching their work differently.

At the beginning of the 2010s, Doze Green moved to California up into the Gold Country. He built a self-sufficient farm there to lead a life of food anarchy. This new life, disconnected from the urban world and nourished daily by nature's cycles, provided him a new breath of inspiration.

In 2015, he participated in the The Bridges of Graf ti exhibition, along with Futura, Boris Tellegen and Mode 2, within the highly institutional framework of the Venice Biennale. Based in Italy for little more than a year, his work remains influenced by the dynamics at play in the history of civilizations and cosmogony. Neither really figurative nor abstract, Doze Green's characters give shape to an almost organic cubism rooted in both graffiti and calligraphy.

Represented since 2013 by Galerie Openspace where he already enjoyed two solo shows (2013 and 2015), Doze Green unveils in his works his vision of the world and human history. Interconnected yet alienated by communication technologies, men are constantly projecting themselves, creating memories of times they did not experience in order to nostalgically relive them later.
