Biography

Sheila Daube is an abstract artist based in Southern California, whose work blends rich color, organic forms, and experimental mediums. Drawing inspiration from the mid-century American School, Daube channels the spirit of modernist abstraction while incorporating her own unique voice and materials. Her artistic practice is deeply influenced by her early experiences as a preschool teacher, which she credits with shaping her intuitive approach to art. “I've been trying to paint like a five-year-old for years," she says, “trying to return to my original reaction to color and line." This desire to reconnect with the raw, unfiltered impulses of childhood informs the playful, yet sophisticated nature of her work.

Daube's abstract compositions often explore the intersection of mythology, emotion, and form, creating pieces that evoke both timeless themes and contemporary relevance. She is known for experimenting with a variety of mediums, including foil and powdered pigments, which she uses to create rich textures and layers that add depth and vibrancy to her pieces. These materials, along with her bold use of color and dynamic shapes, allow her to express complex narratives through abstraction, inviting viewers to find their own meanings within each work.

Her art has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions throughout California, and her paintings are held in private collections across the country. Daube's work continues to resonate with collectors and art enthusiasts, earning her recognition as a distinctive voice in contemporary abstract art. With each new piece, she seeks to push the boundaries of abstraction, exploring new ways to evoke emotion and provoke thought through the language of color and form.
