Pierre-Alex

Pierre-Alex was born in 1970 in Valence. Heis a self-taught artist and has been painting for more than fifteen years. Today he lives and works now in Nice. Every year, he feels the need to travel for several months and get to know other cultures, often in Third World countries, in order to understand what are, in humans, the processes at the origin of their behavior, their suffering, their beliefs.

"When I travel, I let myself guided by the people I meet, as this proximity allows me to better understand their way of life, but also how the country works.

I like the authenticity, the living experiences, it is the only way to have an honest artistic approach. Thus everything is a source of inspiration, from the dilapidated walls in Cuba, the shacks rusty in India, the often extravagant traditions and the domination of men and the environment by men, the groups of interests, immobile beliefs...

It is sufficient to observe the world in which we live so that the ideas mix up and we realize that each civilization is an attempt, a living experiment which has often its contradictions and its own limits.

The main idea is that I produce my paintings using with very different techniques: acrylic, pencil, collage, sewing on wood, paper, canvas... and especially with emotions from my travels in Cuba, Indonesia, Cambodia, India... I am try to capture and convey these moods in my works by layering the brush strokes."
