Born in 1968 - France
Jean-Philippe Berger is a French artist from Dijon, born in 1968.
More used to trial tubes rather than painting tubes, Jean-Philippe Berger was initially a doctoral student in physics. But the fusion of particles with color pigments is only a step, at least in terms of his course.
Bored with laboratories, Jean-Philippe Berger decides to takes a radical turn and devotes himself to his passion, contemporary art. he opens his own art gallery in Dijon, Open Art Galerie. He unites a significant catalog of works and artists around him. He works through instinct, but quickly loses his guidelines and ends up selling his gallery.
Art is still part of his everyday life, Jean-Philippe Berger creates work through mixed techniques, paintings, collages, stencils and resin, which stand alongside on the canvas and create effects through materials. The artist plays with textures to gradually build his work. He stages his paintings by rummaging through various references.
Sometimes Hulk, sometimes Charlie Chaplin, the protagonists of his works find their footing through comics and film history. Marilyn Monroe becomes a myth more than ever, bearing Venus de Milo's face. Boticelli's cupid keeps a watch on the romantics of Hotel de Ville of Robert Doisneau…Many fusions between different cultural codes which are both classic and popular, give his landscapes and intriguing look.
Each symbol matters, the images are carefully chosen, whether from newspapers, posters or even photos and inspire his creation. A new balance is restored. The images which were taken away from their initial context help in the building up of a new story.
Between Pop art and Street art, Jean-Philippe Berger's creations don't have any borders.
