Nueva York
La ciudad de Nueva York se ha convertido en el símbolo mismo de la modernidad. A principios del siglo XX, Nueva York era el umbral del continente americano, Ellis Island era su puerta. Ciudad de todas las esperanzas, el cine, la literatura y las artes visuales han intentado captar la complejidad única de esta ciudad de innumerables rostros. Desde la famosa fotografía de Lewis Wickes Hine de unos trabajadores almorzando suspendidos sobre el vacío hasta las escenas callejeras de Vivian Maier, la ciudad sigue fascinando hoy en día. Y sin embargo, de las innumerables obras que la representan, ninguna consigue abarcar por completo la rebosante complejidad de este lugar impregnado de historia, sueños, desilusiones y altísimos rascacielos. Porque parece imposible elegir. ¿Qué podemos decir de una ciudad así? Para hacerlo bien, tendríamos que hablar de sus colores, sus avenidas, la multitud de sus habitantes, su diversidad, su grandeza y su decadencia. Entonces tendríamos que hablar de las olas de dinero que fluyen por el río Hudson, de la Estatua de la Libertad, de la Torre Chrysler y del Empire State, de las cicatrices del terrorismo y de la vibración del asfalto que provoca un metro al pasar por las entrañas de la ciudad. Pero Nueva York es también una ciudad de alegrías, de música, de éxito, una ciudad de amor y de borracheras locas, una ciudad de niños y una ciudad de adultos, una ciudad tan roja como el puente de Brooklyn y tan verde como las hojas de Central Park. Una ciudad que no puede ser ignorada.Por ello es interesante fijarse en la obra de Gottfried Salzmann. Artista multidisciplinar, trabaja sobre la fluidez y la transparencia de las representaciones, definiéndose como pintor al agua. Sus obras flotan literalmente en las fronteras del dibujo, el grabado y la fotografía, evanescentes e irreales. En la pintura, Daniel Castan y Patrice Palacio muestran paisajes urbanos vaciados de sus habitantes, donde el vapor de los contornos de los edificios revela una actividad continua y discreta. Estos artistas invitan a un asombroso viaje; en la ciudad de Nueva York, como un largo vuelo en helicóptero sobre la "gran manzana", entre Greenwich village, Manhattan y madison square. En cambio, Jerome Liebling, fotógrafo urbano, se centra en un personaje único, un niño negro apoyado en un coche en 1949, sorprendido por la mirada del fotógrafo. ¿Entonces es la ciudad lo que vemos o su reflejo en la retina del artista?
