Retratos neoclásicos
La pintura neoclásica surgió en el siglo XVIII, época en la que la racionalidad y la Ilustración sustituyeron a las guerras de religión del siglo anterior. Originado en Francia, su influencia pronto se extendió por todo el mundo. Este estilo era más académico y orientado a la historia que el estilo rococó decorativo que surgió justo antes. Los retratos neoclásicos del siglo XVIII se caracterizan por sus formas claras, una paleta de colores despojada y sombría, una temática clásica y una profundidad escasa.
Desde el siglo XVIII, el neoclasicismo ha experimentado numerosos resurgimientos en el mundo del arte. Tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial, cuando muchos buscaban una "vuelta al orden", los valores clásicos e intemporales asociados al estilo se volvieron a popularizar. Artistas como Pablo Picasso y André Derain, por ejemplo, mostraron una mayor sobriedad y otros elementos neoclásicos en sus obras durante este periodo.
El legado del retrato neoclásico sigue inspirando a artistas contemporáneos de todo el mundo por su claridad de formas, su perspectiva austera y lineal y sus temas clásicos.
