Portraits en noir et blanc
L'attrait du noir et blanc… La couleur peut articuler la réalité et refléter le réalisme, mais en la supprimant, on met l'accent sur le contraste et on utilise les tons monochromes pour créer une atmosphère qui attire le spectateur instinctivement. Cette technique d'augmentation de l'impact visuel a été exploitée par les photographes depuis les premières images en noir et blanc, prises par Joseph Nicéphore Niepce au début du 19ème siècle. Les photographies naturellement colorées ne sont développées qu'en 1891, lorsque Lipmann Gabriel applique le phénomène de l'interface optique des ondes lumineuses. Et pourtant, la photographie en noir et blanc a perduré, notamment dans le domaine du portrait. Pourquoi ? D'un point de vue pratique, les photographies en noir et blanc ont une durée de conservation plus longue… Mais même d'un point de vue artistique, le fait est qu'un artiste peut capturer l'émotion, la profondeur, l'expression - la réalité, en fin de compte, en utilisant le ton et le contraste devant l'objectif. Il suffit d'évoquer l'œuvre largement diffusée de Dorothea Lange, Migrant Mother (1936), pour comprendre comment un seul portrait en noir et blanc peut devenir un symbole de choses comme la maternité, la détresse, et la pauvreté. Dans les œuvres contemporaines sur Artsper, des artistes comme Maud Bernos et James Sparshatt privilégient les portraits en noir et blanc… Des images qui vous attirent, vous, le spectateur, et vous laissent tomber dans leur profondeur monochromatique éternelle.
