Presentation
After studying at the Institute of Arts, Sandro Chia enrolled at the Academy of Arts of Florence, graduating in 1969.
He traveled to India, Turkey and throughout Europe before settling in Rome in 1970. He continues to work in the conceptual field, making several exhibitions in Rome and Europe in the 70s.
After obtaining a scholarship from the city of Mönchengladbach in Germany, he worked there from September 1980 to August 1981, when he moved to New York.
In 1985, he participated in the Biennale de Paris. Today, his activities are divided between New York, Rome and Montalcino.
Sandro Chia likes representing man in its most carnal aspects. The figure of the hero can be found throughout all of his work. Inspired by classic Italian art, he stresses the robustness of his models to put special emphasis on the human figure never involved in a defined context. His mastery of various techniques such as dry point, etching, lithography and aquatint offers him a great variety in the rendering of his expressions.
The artwork Le Couple aux raisins(1990) is associated with the ad for the wine Château Lynch-Bages.
