Presentation

Anna Price, from Sydney, Australia, is a self-taught artist with a background in interior design. In 2019, Price transitioned to balancing motherhood and her art practice in Chatwood, an eclectic neighborhood in Sydney. Growing up in a big family she was surrounded by creativity in a busy environment and currency channels that energy into her own busy life and career. She paints full-time, happy to be working again with her hands.

Her geometric paintings are bold, colorful and reminiscent of conceptual artists like Sol Lewitt. She’s attracted to repetition, Sydney and her experience as a mother and children’s book illustrations. Price’s maternal instincts come to life in her playful and tantalizing works.

Price’s process is intuitive, bright with a “go big” aesthetic as if to fill a room with a color field painting with a whimsical personality.

She spontaneously sketches geometric patterns as a first layer, although sometimes working from a print base.

While painting, she adds layers of color, even leaving the background as the last stage of her process. Eraser to create texture in selective shapes gives the work a feeling of being finished.

She signs her work with a stamp-like signature adding an element of design, awareness of branding and a reminder of a lost punctuation to historical paintings.
