Darios Tossou was born in Cotonou (Benin) in 1991.
He trained in audiovisual journalism and specialized in fashion photography before moving on to more personal work. His work, constantly changing, is in the process of hatching and revealing itself to Africa and the rest of the world. In 2018, Darios TOSSOU won the prize for best photographer at Festiflash, the Benin photo festival.
The Anonymous series is the result of a deep questioning of the artist. Who am I? What is my relationship to the world? He feeds on ancestral cultures and then invents new visual forms.
By drawing on his roots, Darios TOSSOU rediscovers the religious and cultural power of Voodoo rites, emblematic in Benin. He uses kaolin to coat the bodies he photographs with it and symbolically purify them.
Darios' questioning is intended to be universal. Through his photographs we guess that resilience goes through metaphysics. By our relationship to the universe and to the gods.
