Taylor Foundation Member The important thing in a work is not the subject but the emotion it transmits.

Biography

Norman painter from Le Havre Patrick Briere began painting at the age of 12, gouache, oil and ink were his tools. His hometown is a source of inspiration, he finds there the Norman skies so painted by the Impressionists. The discovery of the works of Van Gogh and Vlaminck will change his perception of landscape interpretation.

Drawing has always occupied his spare time and since 2008 he has devoted himself entirely to painting. After having practiced watercolor according to the teaching of Jean-Louis Morelle, he rediscovered, in 2010, oil under the aegis of Philippe Leroux.

His painting is a colorful vision of the world around him. Color and light are an important part of the identity of his painting, in a permanent search for synthetic and colored construction, a desire to transmit emotions. His path tends to go towards the simplification of forms, towards the limits of abstraction, in a harmony of almost Fauvist inspiration. He favors oil on large formats. In constant research, his painting is not fixed. Harmony is a constant basis of work. The important thing is not the subject but the emotion conveyed by the artist. Although he mainly exhibits in his region, he is internationally recognized.
