Biography

Chrystel is a French visual artist who has lived in Asia for 16 years. Her cultural exoticism has allowed her to develop her style with the same guiding principle: to surprise and innovate. In her current collection entitled 'Résille', she replaces her paintings with repurposed materials, some of which have disappeared: mesh, nets, lace, voile...

From these meticulous cut-outs and superimpositions emerge a portrait, a landscape, a nude, all rendered with great delicacy and precision.

Up close, there is substance, a lot of empty space; from a distance, the details of the material disappear, offering a double interpretation: a realistic image and fascinating optical effects. Her challenge is to recreate the beauty and suppleness of curves using geometric raw materials.

She enjoys these transformations, the ambivalent interpretation that emerges from her works, this game of appearance and disappearance, between reality and illusion. She rehabilitates ordinary materials by giving them a unique artistic dimension.
