It is in nature facing the motif throughout the seasons that I like to paint. By the sea or in the countryside, I look for an emotion, a sensation.
Biography
José DAOUDAL was born in 1954 and became a landscape painter, starting with oil painting at the age of 20. It was in his Finistère that he had his first contact with painting from his childhood in the studio of the Concarneau painter RAVALLEC where he came on Friday, market day, to breathe in the scent of turpentine while watching the master at work behind his easel.
Later, as a teenager, he discovered the landscapers SAVIGNY, COULIOU and many others in Pont Aven who motivated him to work outdoors.
During one of his first exhibitions, he met the painter TOFFOLI who encouraged and advised him.
After having practiced in oil and watercolor, it was the revelation of pastel when he discovered during an exhibition, the magnificent work of the marine painter and sculptor Jacques COQUILLAY; it was then decided, he himself would become a pastellist.
His first outdoor paintings confirmed his attraction to this technique, which allowed him to quickly capture the fleeting nature of light. For several years, he pastelized the lights of Brittany and settled in 2003 on the Rhuys peninsula where he painted, his easel planted in the middle of nature whatever the season.
He then met the master Pastelist CHRIS with whom he worked on still life and benefited from his advice.
His exhibitions were a success, winning numerous regional and national awards. His pastels are now exhibited by numerous French and foreign collectors.
In October 2019, during a report for the magazine Pratique des Arts (n° 149), he started painting outdoors with oil with his painter friend Xavier Kosmalski after a break of more than twenty years.
José DAOUDAL participates in numerous exhibitions and exhibits permanently in several galleries:
