Denise Margoni

Trained at the School of Applied Arts (Ecole Duperré), Denise Margoni has carried out two parallel activities throughout her life: decoration and painting which will be intimately mixed. If she devoted herself mainly to decoration until 1939, in particular by creating designs for wallpapers and fabrics, in particular for the "silks" of Lyon, her pictorial activities soon made her known to the great couturiers. Indeed, she invents a technique of painting on silk by direct application on an oilcloth background without "setting" which confers more freedom and allows to free oneself from the stiffness of the traditional drawing. She brings the silk square closer to the painting. It was this process that enabled him to create models for Bianchini-Ferrier. His admiration for the painting of Estève, Hayden and Beaudin made his style evolve to the gates of abstraction. In 1953, she received encouragement from Fernand Léger and in 1960 those from Balthus who found his painting “very sensitive and personal…”. From 1955 to 1980, she stayed every summer at Beauport Abbey in Paimpol. The light and the seascapes she sees from her windows have inspired her to such an extent that her style will be renewed. Denise Margoni exhibits in Paris, La Rochelle, Paimpol, St Cloud. In the 1970s, she won first prize at the salons of Montrouge, St Cloud and Châlons en Champagne. She also participates in several group exhibitions at the Tamenaga gallery in Paris and in Japan. She was also represented by the Kriegel gallery in Paris. Denis Margoni painted until 1986. She died in Paris in 1987.
