Biography

Alfred Sisley was a prominent Impressionist painter known for his exceptional landscapes and mastery of capturing the effects of light and atmosphere. He was born on October 30, 1839, in Paris, France, to English parents. Despite studying business, Sisley decided to pursue a career in art and enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

Sisley's artistic style was deeply influenced by his close association with fellow Impressionist artists such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. He primarily focused on depicting landscapes, particularly scenes along the banks of the Seine River and the surrounding countryside. Sisley's paintings are characterized by their delicate brushwork, nuanced color palettes, and a keen sense of capturing the transient effects of light.

Although his works were highly regarded by fellow artists, Sisley faced financial difficulties throughout his life and struggled to gain commercial success. Nevertheless, his contributions to the Impressionist movement were significant. Today, his paintings are celebrated for their poetic beauty and are showcased in major art galleries around the world. Alfred Sisley passed away on January 29, 1899, in Moret-sur-Loing, France.
