Matthieu Louvrier

After a literary course Matthieu Louvrier entered the National School of Fine Arts in Dijon, where he was trained by Orlan, Yan Pei Ming among others. In 1997 he won the Paros Prize and then received the Cordillot Prize in 1999.

Various questions arise on the canvas: Matthieu Louvrier addresses the symbolist representation of the body in the series Le corps langue and, with a certain mysticism, studies the sky which unfolds to infinity as an abstract canvas (Ether series).

Passionate about childhood in its imaginary dimension, Matthieu populates his creations with dreamlike beings that can be found in a work of childish illustrations.

One word always comes up: emotion. Matthieu invites us to feel, to appeal to the essential emotions where we find human opposites: violence and gentleness, animality and spirituality, love and hate, dreams and reality.

Meeting singer Allan Ryan in 2002 marked the start of new projects. He creates for him a visual universe (photos, CD albums, live visual performances, scenographies).

From 2007, Matthieu participated in several publications (children's books, illustrated tales, poems, short stories).

Matthieu Louvrier is also a speaker in plastic arts workshops and develops, within the collective Laure et Amon (21), various socio-cultural projects for people in difficulty (children with psychological difficulties, people with disabilities, teens / adults in difficulty social services, seniors in Alzheimer's units).

Matthieu Louvrier recently presented a series of painted poems, echoing the feelings born in front of the Iroise Sea. In a minimalist and silent approach, the seascape becomes abstraction. Matter and words mingle where the earth ends - Finis Terrae

"I imagine the world to be underpinned by forces that we do not control and I work in a gap that separates the visible from the invisible. I am very interested in the symbolic capacity of color in the infinite dimension of its possibilities of evocations. I seek in my paintings to produce an aesthetic disorder, through the erasure of the figure, perhaps a dematerialization of the tremors of nature ... "Matthieu Louvrier
