Biography
Wilhelm von Gloeden, also known as Baron von Gloeden, was a German photographer. His work principally focused on pastoral nude studies of young men and boys, accompanied by props inspired by Greek and Roman antiquity and landscape photography. The artist was innovative in his use of human body makeup, and in the soft rendering of light in his photography.
Von Gloeden’s photography was diverse in its thematic explorations and compositional technique. His imagery ranged from landscape depictions to studies of peasants, shepherds, and fishermen, dressed in classical garb. The artist died in 1931.
